about em-dash
em-dash is a journal founded on the appreciation and publication of graduate-level work in literature. We are committed to a vision of literary appreciation within which there are no borders drawn between creative writing and literary analysis. As writers and thinkers working with literature, we aim to foster a community of writing within which artistry is not lost in the wake of academic formality. We want to elevate the bold, the profane, the erudite, the poetic, and the bewildering as inevitable and valuable forms of literary artistry and analysis–just as they are inevitable and valuable to life itself.

Our editorial board is staffed by graduate students in Literature with a wide variety of scholarly and creative interests. We are early modernists, comparatists, poets, fiction writers, painters, drag artists, musicians, and committed students of literary theory. We are also veterans, cyclists, first-generation scholars, romantics, metal-workers, carpenters, and lovers of life.

em-dash is published bi-annually in the Spring and Fall.
